Thanksgiving Fast– Day 14

Here we go, Day 14 (10/102016, Monday).

  1. Having a relaxing morning.
  2. Recognizing my faults (and relying on Jesus to help me fix them).
  3. Having people to talk to, especially at work.
  4. Meditating on the Word (i.e. memory verses).
  5. Being able to check up on people.
  6. My lips. I really love my lips! And I thank God for them hahah!
  7. Pooping! Pooping!! Pooping!!! I love pooping!
  8. 10 more days… Day 14, we made it to Day 14!
  9. Cleaning the bathroom at my apartment. I actually love cleaning the bathroom!
  10. I had a meeting and I made it there on time.
  11. Christ in me, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).
  12. Late Night at Berk.
  13. Having friends and even acquaintances to discuss things with.. discussions, not debates.
  14. I made a commitment today… one I intend to keep and stay faithful to, and I am thanking God in advance for helping me through the commitment.

Thanksgiving Fast– Day 13

Here are the things I was thankful for on Day 13 (Sunday).

  1. Waking up in time for church… I didn’t set my alarm, but God woke me up!
  2. Rain!!!! Oh, the rain! Amherst is in a drought right now, so it was good to have rain!
  3. Making it to church safe and sound. The rain was kind of heavy, and I was kind of scared, to be honest.
  4. Having a GPS.
  5. Having unlimited data.
  6. Learning that the devil is a defeated foe!
  7. Only Jesus can complete me. Thank you Jesus for completing me!
  8. I am not fighting alone… in the fight of my life, Jesus is with me!
  9. Church– and I feel like I have said this before, but being able to go to church and be refreshed and rejuvenated is great!!
  10. Colossians 2, especially verse 15, “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross” (NIV).
  11. Jesus’ victory at Calvary– knowing this truth is a weapon.
  12. Learning different ways of fighting (i.e. abiding in Christ, obeying God, etc).
  13. I am no longer a slave to fear, in Jesus’ name!

Thanksgiving Fast– Day 12

Even though I haven’t posted the things I have been thankful for, I have been writing them down. So, here are the things I was thankful for on Day 12 (this past Saturday).

  1. Making it to Day 12!
  2. Getting to hang out with Ms. Carmen (a lady from a church I go to. She’s so awesome!)
  3. Getting to sit in the passenger seat of my car. Perhaps I enjoyed it a little more than I should’ve hahaha!
  4. Enjoying Ms. Carmen’s company.
  5. Eating Thai food. I had Pad Thai and it was DELICIOUS!!!
  6. Different cultures and foods!!!
  7. God is defending me.
  8. Hopeful assurance of Heaven.
  9. Being able to have a relationship with God, knowing Him, and being able to know Him more.
  10. Mummy Atunlute’s birthday!
  11. Saving on gas (I saved $5).
  12. Good things are coming my way!!!

Thanksgiving Fast– Day 11

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all  generations, for ever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:20, NIV). 

Thanking God for:

  1. Early morning date with Jesus— well, it wasn’t too early, but it was early for me; 8:30. And it was just so nice being in the presence of my Daddy, not feeling rushed, but just basking in the ambiance of His word!
  2. Space heater. Shout out to Mummy Adewale (my mom) for getting me my space heater earlier this year! It has been keeping me warm, especially now that the cold weather is upon us.
  3. Singing/music. I am not a singer, but I will sing my heart out for Jesus! I do want to practice more and more so that what I sing will continue to be a sweet sweet sound in Daddy’s ears! And music is just awesome, you know. Though I mostly listen to Christian songs and Nigerian music (at times), I thank God for it being available to me.
  4. Supernatural Season 11 is on Netflix!!! I am so excited. The show is not biblically accurate, but I love the Winchesters! Ahh! (I pray that they will actually be Christ followers in real life).
  5. Dinner with friends at Chili’s. Tonight was the first time I went to Chili’s and it was awesome! The dinner was great, the company was better, and the discussion was the best part– talking about God never gets old; there are always new and newer revelations! Also, our waiter Larry was pretty great!
  6. Having friends to talk about God with/to. Friends are important, and when you have real, true Christian friends, it’s pretty great! I thank God I have been blessed enough to have friends I can converse with about God, His love for us, His character, etc… It is truly a blessing that conversations can happen organically, you know. I just love it!
  7. Calming down at work today. I have no idea what happened today at work, but I was just ANNOYED with everyone and everything. I didn’t want to be there; everything was getting me angry– even a break did not help. But, I was able to calm down, for real, when I looked to God. I kept singing and singing until my mind returned to God. And, I am telling you, the peace that I felt! I cannot put it in words. God is good. I was so annoyed that I wanted to cry! But, He calmed me down; He touched me!
  8. Having the night free. So, I was supposed to do my sister’s hair. And as much as I love my sister, and as much as I would’ve loved to do her hair tonight, a part of me was wishing that it would be postponed. And guess what… last minute she called me and said she wouldn’t be able to do it today! WHOA! I didn’t pray for this. Thanks for looking out for me, Jesus! #goodlooksJesus
  9. Making it to work and not getting into an accident or pulled over. As much as it was great to have my date with Jesus, I didn’t plan accordingly, so I was a minute late to work today. But I was speeding and driving recklessly. The lesson? PLAN ACCORDINGLY!!!!
  10. Being able to treat people with love and respect. I am not perfect in this, but I thank God for making me see people, even the ones that are “special” or “abnormal”, as people. There’s so much more to that, but I’ll leave it for now.
  11. Dinner being paid for. That was the biggest surprise of the night! Shout out to Minister Garnett for paying for dinner! A big thanks for God for making it all possible! All I can think of is when Jesus said, “It is finished”, it is paid! 🙂 🙂   🙂

Prayer: Lord, thank you because there are things I don’t even have to pray for but you will do anyway. Thank you so much for surprising me today, Lord!

Thanksgiving Fast– Day 10

Again, I missed writing about Day 10, but here are the things I was particularly grateful for yesterday.

  1. Pastor Kola’s birthday (which was yesterday. This is kind of an inside joke… but praise God for another birthday!)
  2. Dreaming. I was able to remember my dream yesterday, which hasn’t been happening lately.
  3. Bra… I’ll just leave that there.
  4. Knowing God is working on my behalf.
  5. Having money, however little, in my account. The struggle is too real right now, but I thank God that I still have something, you know.
  6. Starving the flesh, by God’s grace and empowerment. There’s still plenty of work to be done, but I thank God I am now who I was.
  7. No pity party. Sometimes I get into these moods and I sing the “Woe me!” mantra, wishing life was different, thinking about who hurt me and whatnot. But I praise God because there’s none of that! Whenever I am tempted to get in that mood, I remember the goodness of Jesus!
  8. Making it to Day 10… and still going!
  9. Having Godly counsel and direction
  10. The beating, Crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus! Read the Gospels, friends!

Thanksgiving Fast– Day 9

This will be a really quick one. Here are the things I am grateful for today. 
1. My friend Doreen, whose birthday is today! #21

2. I feel good today, like REALLY REALLY GOOOOOOOOD!!!! I haven’t been feeling good lately. I was smiling at work today, even my coworkers noticed. Praise God!

3. London. Google reminded me of pics I took while in London on this day three years ago! Wow!!!! I really miss London, and I am very grateful I was able to go!

4. The power in the name and presence of Jesus! I was reading John 18 earlier, and it amazed me that when people came at night to arrest Jesus, they fell when He spoke!!!! Like, WHAT?!?!!!! Jesus is awesome!!!!

5. Ability and privilege to read God’s Word, meditate on it, and be changed by it! 

6. Having clothes to wear. Because it is my friend’s birthday today, I thank God I can put on nicer clothes.

7. So I have multiple jobs, yeah, and at one of them, in an office, I have time to relax and catch a break. So I thank God for this office and this chill time. 

8. And because I work in such a peaceful environment, I thank God I can play Christian music! This is something I cannot do at my other jobs. I have been enjoying Christian songs since I got here!!

9. Finally, I thank God for the beautiful day we are enjoying in Amherst! I didn’t need a jacket today! Praise God!!!!

Thanksgiving Fast– Day 8

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Colossians 3:17, NIV).

Thanking God for: 

  1. My friend Kathiana, whose birthday is today
  2. My eyesight
  3. Access to basic needs
  4. Toilet paper
  5. Food
  6. Access the healthcare
  7. Being aware of my shortcomings
  8. Getting mail

Passage: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26, NIV).

Reason(s): I hope you can at least guess, by now, that I love birthdays and I have a lot of friends whose birthdays are in October! I thank God for my friend Kathiana! Today is her birthday! I thank God that today is a day of celebration concerning her, and that she is alive and well to see it! And I thank God that there are many more birthdays ahead of her, in Jesus’ name!

Oh, the eyes, these windows to the soul! Our eyes are important, you know. Today I had a scare because my right eye was acting weird, really weird. The doctor said my pupils were over-acting, which isn’t normal; and then she said something about the brain.. Anyway, I know that I am healed, in Jesus’ name, so praise God for that! Anyway, yeah, despite the fact that my eyeball was being weird, I can still see!

Having access to basic needs/”necessities” is something I have taken for granted, especially since living in this country. I know how hard things were while we were in Nigeria. Today, I was just reminded that a lot of people do not have access to things such as clean water, clothes, a hot shower, three meals-a-day etc.;I praise God that I do. And along the same line, I thank God for food. I ate today, and I was full and filled! Being able to buy and make my own meals… Praise God! Also, toilet paper!!!!! We all know how important toilet paper is in this country. I thought I wouldn’t have toilet paper for the next few days, but God… 🙂

And, I thank God for surprising me this morning with mail! I never expected it! It just made me so happy.

Lastly, I thank God for having me be aware of my shortcomings… I have a lot. And I thank God that He gently showed me, through His Holy Spirit, that I am not all that. So, I am not perfect, friends; that’s my secret– and I am done pretending to be. I am still a work in progress, undergoing surgery, Holy Spirit surgery.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for access to basic necessities, for my eyesight, for the little things that make my day. Thank you for reminding me that I am not perfect, but I serve a perfect God. Thank you for being gentle with me when I need it. I love you, Lord! 

Thanksgiving Fast– Day 7

“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer” (1st Timothy 4:4-5, NIV).

Thanking God for: 

  1. Boldness and being comfortable talking about God
  2. Fall/seasons
  3. Going to work today
  4. Emotions
  5. Prayer
  6. My body
  7. Holy Spirit

Passage: “Pray in the Spirit at all time and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere” (Ephesians 6:18, NLT).

Reason(s): I will start with number 3, “going to work today”. I thank God for it because I was able to get to work, even though I was 10 minutes late. So, my shift started at 8am, but I woke up at 7:45– my morning routine was RUSHED!!! Anyway, God allowed me to get to work, and today was not bad at all, which brings me to number one. I work as a cashier at a grocery store. A customer came to my line and I liked his name (I LOVE NAMES!), and we got to talking. Then he said his parents are Christians but he is not, and I just started talking to him about God, with other people present, mind you. I am not boasting about this, but I am thanking God because, by His grace, I have come a long way! I talked normally, without being self conscious or embarrassed! Yay, God!!!!!

Moving on, I thank God for the seasons. Fall is my second favorite season, after Spring. My favorite part of Fall is the leaves changing color! It just gets me so happy because it reminds me of Genesis 1, Creation; the leaves changing color glorifies God because they tell us that a new season is upon us! Plus they just look so pretty. I love looking at nature, it gets me so emotional… which brings me to my emotions. I am HYPER emotional, and I thank God that I have them and that I am aware of them! I can say a lot more, but I’ll leave it at that.

The power of prayer and the power (and presence) of the Holy Spirit in my life… I’m just so grateful that I have full access to these! I learned about the Holy Spirit at a prayer meeting this evening and praise God for knowledge, you know. The Holy Spirit is a person, the Holy Spirit is God, the Holy Spirit is powerful! I know I need to know the Holy Spirit more, but I thank God that the Holy Spirit is in me, He prays for me, He intercedes for me. And just being able to pray, and even praying in the Spirit, is a privilege I don’t deserve.

Finally, I thank God for my body! My body journey… oohhh boy… It has been a rough one, but I thank God for my body. My body is beautiful, I am healthy, everything works… Praise God!

Prayer: Lord, I just want to say THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Thanksgiving Fast– Day 6

“Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1st Thessalonians 5:16-18, NIV).

I couldn’t write yesterday due to tiredness 😦 but here are the things I was thankful for yesterday.

Thanking God for: 

  1. Shallom (my sister, whose birthday was yesterday).
  2. Family
  3. The body of Christ/church
  4. Victory
  5. Empowerment (to do all the things I need to do)
  6. Rest

Passage: “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it” (1st Corinthians 12:27, NIV).

Reason(s): I think the best way to explain these 6 things is just to say this: it is sweet to have a family, both earthly and heavenly. In our families we can celebrate with each other, uplift each other, cry with each other, overcome with each other, etc. And this past weekend I was able to experience this a little bit more fully. So, my sister turned 21, and we celebrated it; very low-key. I thank God for her because she is alive, she is well, she knows the Lord, and by God’s grace she has a long way to go, in the Lord of course! And I love her so much. I am happy and grateful for the woman she is becoming. Along the same lines, we celebrated with our other sister (from another mother, but the same Father), and it was beautiful! Family is important, friends! And it doesn’t end with blood. Also, I am thankful that my sisters are in the body of Christ! And it is amazing knowing that we (Christians) belong to the same body, different parts and functions, but the same body nonetheless.

And I thank God for victory because I know that Jesus has won it all for me! I was reminded of that at church yesterday! So, I will fight, this time knowing that I am fighting from the standpoint of victory. In the name of Jesus, no devil will stop me from reaching my goal, which is doing my Father’s will! Amen!

Empowerment from above is needed in this life! I thank God for His empowerment, from driving to being committed to this fast; God empowers us daily to achieve so many things! Also, along with this, I thank God for rest! Although this weekend was awesome, I needed rest. Praise Jesus that I was able to take the rest! I was refreshed to live today! Praise God!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the family, your Family, that I belong to. Thank you for the benefits of being your daughter. Thank you for allowing me to remember these things and not take them for granted. Amen! 




Thanksgiving Fast– Day 5

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever… to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever…” (Psalm 136, NIV).

Wow! Day 5 already!! Here goes:

Thanking God for: 

  1. Nigeria
  2. House
  3. Free Laundry
  4. Being able/available to help people
  5. Safety

Passage: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name” (Psalm 100:4, NIV).

Reason(s): My country, Nigeria, is 56 today! WHOOOOOOO!!!!!! Nigeria has a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG way to go, but we are not where we used to be! I am proud of Nigeria, proud to be Nigerian. I thank God that He has a powerful destiny for Nigeria. I am excited for my country!

I also thank God today for my house, well, my apartment. Last night was a bit cold, and I had a home to sleep in, a bed, a heater. I am no better than those who lack these things, but I thank God! And a friend of mine was able to sleep over, which is always a plus!

Free laundry! I mean… that’s always a good thing! I have been doing my laundry for several hours, and I praise God that I still have my quarters hahah!

I thank God for allowing me have the heart to want to help people out. It’s challenging in different ways, but I praise God!

Today, I had a few almosts, i.e. hitting people, being hit, but God saved me in each instance!

Prayer: Lord, you are just awesome! Thank you for keeping me, for providing for me. Thank you for being God!
